Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is expected to officially announce the border will open fully from the end of July, in a speech after 1pm. A livestream of the event will appear above.

Earlier it was reported that it was understood the Government would bring forward the full reopening of the border by two months.

Ardern, who will speak by video link, will be joined by Covid-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins and Immigration Minister Kris Faafoi, at a Business New Zealand lunch in central Auckland.

It comes after New Zealand officially tallies more than one million Covid-19 cases, although virus modeller Dr Dion O’Neale said the true figure could be up to four times higher.
