Toward Cognitive Search: Machine-Learning Technology on Digital Media

Published
The CHM collection contains a vast audio and video collection with more than a thousand video-recorded oral history interviews with technology pioneers and innovators. Since current users must painstakingly sift manually through each video to find what they’re looking for, the collection is vastly underutilized.

Thanks to a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, and the support of the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, we’ve been on an 18-month journey to discover whether machine-learning technology can make our video collection more accessible and searchable for museum patrons around the world.
