the Las Vegas Raiders got a whole lot worse on Sunday with a 24-0 loss to the New Orleans Saints.
The defeat dropped the Raiders to 2-5 in head coach Josh McDaniels' first season, leading some fans and analysts to call for McDaniels to be fired already.
But the Raiders' front office isn't entertaining that idea yet.
According to Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Raiders owner Mark Davis issued a statement that "Josh McDaniels is our head coach and will be for years to come."
However, the Raiders currently sit last in the AFC West and are one of five AFC teams with two or fewer wins. The shutout loss to the Saints was so bad that McDaniels apologized to Raider fans afterward.
"It was embarrassing," quarterback Derek Carr said to summarize the performance. "We are so much better than that.
"It's going to be an amazing challenge to see how we respond as a team."
The Raiders offense was putrid against a New Orleans defense that had been shredded in previous weeks. Vegas didn't cross the 50-yard-line until a garbage-time final drive. Carr threw for 101 yards on 15-of-26 passing (3.9 yards per attempt) with an interception before sitting the final drive. Josh Jacobs rushed for 43 yards on 10 carries. Davante Adams caught just one of five targets for three yards.
