The Enlightenment of the Buddha - An Illustrated Buddha Tale

Published
The story of Buddhism is a fascinating one. In this video I talk about how Siddhartha became the Buddha - or awakened one. It's basically the tale of the enlightenment of Buddha. Most people are unaware that Buddha was an Indian prince. But there is a very interesting story behind how he renounced his kingdom for the life of an ascetic wanderer. But this was the only way he could seek the truth. After years of meditation, fasting and pondering on life, Siddhartha finally gained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree at the age of 35. This is the Buddha's story.

I hope you enjoyed that short story on Buddha. The story came from the book The End of Days by Sylvia Browne. I thought it the ideal length – not too short or too long. So as you can see, the Buddha was born into royalty, lived as a prince, and at the age of 29 left the palace. During his time under the Bodhi tree, he literally vowed to either find enlightenment or die. He faced all his demons under that tree, and the culmination was fighting off Mara, an evil spirit who tempted him with worldly comforts and desires.

After defeating Mara and using his consciousness to travel throughout the universe, the Buddha finally opened his eyes. Back in the moment, under the tree, he now had a complete understanding of why humanity suffers and the way out of it. He was 35 years old. This inspired the Buddha to write down his thoughts into core values that people could follow. The three basic tenets of Buddhism are the three universal truths, the four noble truths and the noble eightfold path. For the sake of brevity, I will only talk about the four noble truths.

This basically sums up why we are trapped in the life and death cycle of constantly reincarnating back to the earth plane. The first noble truth is that suffering exists. Basically all life is suffering and everyone experiences it. The second noble truth is that suffering is caused by attachment. It can take many forms, such as any type of desire, sensation or wish. Even emotions of fear are considered suffering.

The third noble truth is that there is end to suffering. The good news for us all is that attachment can be overcome – this is the beginning of nirvana, the final liberation to the earth plane. The fourth and last noble truth is that in order to end suffering, one must adhere to the noble Eightfold path. I wouldn’t say this is Buddhism in a nutshell, but basically the main goal of Buddhism is similar to MBT, which is to evolve, level up and move on to greener pastures.

Of course, there are differences between Buddhism and MBT, but that’s not the point of this video. In the end, we’ll never really know for sure if the story of Buddha was a fable, an exaggerated story or if it was all true. But what we can say is that 2500 years ago, these amazing truths were written down and began to be followed by a lot of people.

To my knowledge, there has never been a war in the name of Buddhism and Buddhist scripture condemns violence in every form. I have resonated with Buddhism for a long time and find it to be a blessing to this world. Most people are surprised to know that Buddhism began in India. It then spread to China, Japan and other parts of Asia. Today, you can find Buddhists in every country of the world. Thank you for watching. Please subscribe to be alerted to new videos.
