Somaliland Human Rights Commission Support to Migrant Workers (ENGLISH)

Published
Selame, 25, left her hometown in Ethiopia for Hargeisa to find better economic opportunities after a severe drought ravaged the family farm. In Hargeisa she faced abusive working conditions from her employer.

After hearing her case, the Ethiopian Community Centre in Hargeisa referred Selame to the Somaliland Human Rights Commission where she learnt about her rights as a migrant worker and was helped to improve her situation.

The Somaliland Human Rights Commission is committed to enhance human rights protection by addressing human rights violations and complaints and reducing inequality of employment opportunities. IOM is working with countries in the East and Horn of Africa to enhance labour migration governance and protection of migrant workers and their family members.
