Sherrard Superintendent Dr. Carl Johnson takes office July 1

Published
Superintendent Alan Boucher is passing the torch to new Sherrard Superintendent, 1990 Sherrard grad, Dr. Carl Johnson - who takes office tomorrow, July 1.

Boucher is officially retired after 36 years of public education service - 15 of those spent at Sherrard School District - where he first served as Principal of Coyne Center Elementary 1998-2006, and then superintendent in 2015 to present.

School Board President Rhys Fullerlove spoke about Mr. Boucher’s career during his retirement party,

“To be sure, we will miss Alan, maybe more than we know – but, to be honest, we’ll carry on without him. We’ll keep moving forward because of the progress we made under his leadership, and because he leaves us pointed in the right direction.”

Dr. Johnson has 26 years of experience in education and most recently served as the superintendent of Colona School District 190. He taught for nine years as a high school teacher, then served five years as assistant principal and principal of a middle school followed by seven years as a high school principal prior to his current position.

Fullerlove said, “The board of education was deeply impressed by the experience, compassion, financial acumen and humility of Dr. Johnson.

“We were excited that Dr. Johnson has ties to the district, which we did not know about until the end of his first interview as none of us knew him personally. We believe his roots in our community will allow us to honor our past, and lend to the continued growth and innovation of our district,” said Fullerlove.

During the last semester Dr. Johnson worked closely with Mr. Boucher to learn the ropes for a seamless transition.

“I very much look forward to serving the Sherrard District," Dr. Johnson said he felt a rush of excitement when he first got the call to return to his alma mater.
