All-Staff recorded message – January 6, 2022
Dr. Joanna Anderson, president

Good morning and Happy New Year! I hope you had an enjoyable holiday break with family and friends. As we kick off 2022 with this all-staff recording, we are not saving the best for last…instead we’re starting with a presentation of the Sizzle Award, followed by the announcement of mini grants, an update on campus projects and the presidential search, introduction of new employees and a brief state of the college.
Becky Rose, who was our most recent recipient, is here to present the Sizzle award. Congratulations to Beverly Marquez, the spring 2022 recipient. (Listen to Becky’s presentation
Mary Treuner, executive director of the Foundation, has mini grants to announce. I’m so proud of this program because everyone has the opportunity to put forward their ideas for improving our institution in ways that address our strategic plan through the mini grant application. The two grant recipients are: Neena Williams-Strange for earth science stream tables and carts for Sedalia and LOZ, and Linda Harris for CTC digital media class equipment. Both were awarded grants of $3,500. Thank you to the Foundation for this great support!
Progress on the Olen Howard Workforce Innovation Center continues on track. Here to provide an update on campus projects is our Director of Facilities Justin O’Neal. Good morning!
Justin O’Neal – (listen to video for project updates including OHWIC, campus dining expansion, campus store relocation, parking lot improvements)
This is an exciting time for State Fair Community as the college and Board prepares to select its next leader and they want you to be involved. Executive Director of Human Resources Rachel Dawson is here to provide an update on the Presidential Search process.
Rachel Dawson – (listen to video and look for email with presidential search details)
Thank you, Rachel. We also use our all-staff meeting to introduce new employees. While it’s not as personal as seeing them face-to-face, I hope you’ve gotten to know these folks who started after our fall convocation…or will do so this year. We extend a warm welcome to all of our new employees and are very glad you’re part of the SFCC family!
ELT Covid-19 Review – First ELT meeting each month
On Tuesday, ELT discussed the current state of Covid-19 and reviewed CDC protocols. Consensus was to continue with our current state of on-campus work and classes as planned. Our first line of defense in keeping employees and students well is for folks to stay home if they’re not well! Employees need to work with their supervisors and students need to notify instructors and we all need to work together to make staying home when sick effective. We have invested more than a million dollars in technology to enable remote work and make instruction as seamless as possible. If you have questions or issues, please reach out to your supervisor or dean. Other Covid protocols discussed include our decision about masks, which are recommended but not required. SFCC is not doing contact tracing but letting HR know when you’re sick with Covid is still encouraged.
State of the College
Mo Excels Round three, SFCC’s project at top of DHEWDs list - $2.4M
DHEWD – recommended a core increase of 5.4% for all of higher education, we’ll be watching Governor’s budget announcement on January 19 for details
BIG PROJECT – Center for Advanced Agriculture and Transportation Technologies (listen for details)
Campus Expansion – Potential expansion of our campus with the purchase of land adjacent to the west and south. This is a joint proposal with the Missouri Department of Agriculture and the Missouri State Fair. SFCC hopes to purchase half of the 400-acre parcel.
Fiscal 2021 year end – outstanding audit results and the college reserves are healthy as a result of careful budgeting and using HEERF funds to recover lost revenue. Largest reserve during my tenure as president. That said, budgeting for FY23 will remain challenging as all Covid-19 relief funds will end. ELT is working on their budgets now for meeting on Jan. 18.
Best wishes to all of you in the semester ahead! And, if you’ve listened/watched this presentation to the end, please send me an email with the subject word “prize” …and you’ll be entered to win. I am giving away a $50 gift certificate to Kehde’s Barbecue. So happy eating to someone!
Have a great semester!
