A résumé is a document used to present backgrounds and skills. A typical résumé contains a summary of relevant job experience and education. The résumé is usually one of the first items, along with a cover letter and sometimes an application for employment, which a potential employer sees regarding the job seeker and is typically used to screen applicants, often followed by an interview.

It is in essence a marketing document that is a summary of a job seekers work experience, skill sets and academic qualifications. It is used by individuals to apply for jobs with the aim of securing new employment.
TYPES OF RESUMES
Chronological resume
A chronological résumé is best for those who have mostly worked in the same field and can show steady progress up the ladder, each job being a step-up from the last. It focuses on your most recent work experience and then working chronologically backwards.
Functional resume
The focus of this type of résumé is skills and experience, not career history. A functional résumé is best for those who cannot show a steady career progression.
CV
A curriculum vitae (CV) gives an overview of a person's experience and other qualifications. In some countries, a CV. is typically the first item that a potential employer encounters regarding the job seeker and is typically used to screen applicants, often followed by an interview, employment.

Differences between Resume & CV:
Length - The first and most notable difference between a CV and a Resume is how long each one of them is. A resume is kept short and brief (usually 1 page), whereas the CV is more comprehensive (it can go up to 2-3 pages depending on your experience).
Function - The CV is mainly used for academicals purposes, such as applying for a research program, a Ph.D., or joining the staff of a university. The resume, on the other hand, is written for a regular job in a company.
Type of information you include - The CV is an academic diary where you include all your academic qualifications, achievements, and certifications. It is universal in nature as it can be updated as you go. Whereas, a resume has to be created (or at least customized) for each job you’re applying for, and has a bigger focus on your professional achievements, rather than academic.
