Recent and future patterns of work around state pension age

How long are people's working lives? Are they getting longer or - since the pandemic - shorter? What will the working lives be like for future generations approaching state pension age? And what happens for those approaching state pension age who are not able to work? These are some of the questions we look to answer at this event which comes at the end of a large 2-year programme of work from the Institute for Fiscal Studies and the Centre for Ageing Better. We draw on new work on understanding changes levels - and patterns of - employment for people in their 50s and 60s, and new analysis on how household incomes have been affected by the increase in the state pension age from 65 to 66.
