Providing Local Communities with the Data They Need

Published
The U.S. Census Bureau and the Local Employment Dynamics (LED) Partnership in collaboration with the Council for Community and Economic Research (C2ER) and the Labor Market Information (LMI) Institute, welcomes Patrick Hewitt as he presents, “Providing Local Communities with the Data They Need.”

Hewitt presents how a variety of sources, including U.S. Census Bureau Population Estimates and the 5-Year American Community Survey, Longitudinal Employer-Household Dynamics, the Northern Ohio Data and Information Service, and the County Fiscal Office were used to publish the 2021 Data Book for Cuyahoga County. The book provides insight into the Cuyahoga County communities and was intended to be used by local governments, community organizations, and others interested in learning more about the community. It can also be used as a resource in preparing grant applications, understanding community changes, and identifying issues to address.

About the presenter:
Patrick Hewitt is a Manager of Planning Services with the Cuyahoga County Planning Commission in charge of Strategy & Development. A resident of Cleveland, Ohio, he attended Denison University for his Bachelor’s in History and received his Master’s Degree in City and Regional Planning from the Ohio State University. Patrick has more than a decade of experience in community planning in Columbus, Pittsburgh, and Cleveland, and he has served as the lead planner on multiple planning projects in Cuyahoga County, including community master plans, countywide economic development plans, regional zoning analyses, and transit-oriented development strategies.

Patrick has also volunteered locally with the Cuyahoga County Monument Commission, the Downtown Cleveland Alliance, and his local Cleveland Landmarks Design Review Committee. With a passion for building vibrant places, Patrick brings experience on place-based design and community revitalization, and how data can inform these efforts.
