As per data from the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), India's unemployment rate for December 2021 is at 7.91%. Mahesh Vyas, MD and CEO of CMIE said that the unemployment rate is calculated as per the percentage of people who are actively seeking work. "If people don't get a job after trying for several months, they lose hope and return back home. In Uttar Pradesh, many seeking jobs have given up hope and have discontinued applying for jobs".
