Legal Status For Undocumented Immigrants Would Ease US Labor Shortage

According to the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey report, a record 4.3 million people quit their jobs in August. About 2.9% of the workforce quit in August, up from 2.7% in July. That marks the highest quit rate since the report began in late 2000. The number of workers who quit rose by 242,000 from July as more Americans demanded higher pay, better working conditions and more flexible arrangements. The number of people who quit rose in accommodation and food services, wholesale trade and state and local government education. Economist Eduardo J Padron, wrote in The Hill, that employers need workers and workers need dignity and the case for immigration reform is extremely strong. Padron writes that according to recent analysis, if Congress creates pathways to citizenship for Dreamers, TPS recipients, farmworkers and essential workers, economic activity will increase by $121 billion annually. This figure includes an added $31 billion per year in federal, state and local tax revenues, and providing legal status for undocumented immigrants would help ease our nation’s labor shortage.
