This month hear from Einhorn, Barbarito, Frost & Botwinick, PC on the issue of classification of workers as either employees or independent contractors. These decisions impact taxes, benefits and available programs and also impact both workers and those who provide them with work, whether employers, facilitators or others. Classification issues have also become quite important in evaluating the status of Gig workers in NJ and elsewhere. Additionally, Gov. Murphy has signed and pushed other executive orders and legislation very recently relating to this topic and although the legislation is put forward and spun as something to protect workers, this is not always the case and some think the changes in the law are a thinly veiled attempt to simply collect more taxes.
