Did you know that music from ancient traditions commonly work together to change your brain? Have you realized the positive impact of certain music on how you feel and behave?
We talked about these concepts and more with award-winning composer, Yuval Ron for this week‘s episode of the Weekend Wellness Hour Show. Yuval has worked with many neuroscientists to put together music that addresses and impacts various brain states.
We discussed how during his career, Yuval studied ancient music traditions from cultures all over the world. He mentioned looking at the impact of these various music traditions on the brain.
Yuval also explained how music used to have modes or moods with specific intentions. He dove into an explanation of how this type of music has 5 to 8 different notes with different vibrations.
We also explored how Yuval creates music to achieve a purpose. He alters the mood, tempo, rhythm, as well as the instruments and colors of the notes to produce music that can change the brain’s state.
We discussed pulsations in music and how that is used to change a brain state from alert to more relaxed and even to go into a sleep state. He explained that he adds some music that complements the pulsations to make it more pleasing to the ear.
Yuval has performed meditative music for the Dalai Lama, the Sufi Sheikh Sidi Muhammad, collaborated with the Sufi leaders Pir Zia Inayat Khan and Pir Shabdah Khan, with numerous master musicians including Omar Faruk Tekbilek, Estrella Morente and Deva Premal, and with the Zen Buddhist priest and master artist Hirokazu Kosaka.
