Physical health and vigor are such integral parts of living that they usually are taken for granted until they leave; then the loss is earthshaking. Pain and discomfort and restricted activities bring a lessened light to the world. Everything is dark and mauve and somber, and life no longer seems much worth the living. Small wonder that health tops the list of all material desirables. He whose physical energies are at the flood meets life with joy and anticipation, joins in, participates, learns and contributes. While one whose energies are dissipated, warped, diffused, is overwhelmed constantly.

Yet the answer to any physical problem is spiritual, just as the answer to everything is spiritual, just as cause always exists on the invisible plane of mind and what we perceive in the physical world is simply a series of effects. But we know far too little about our bodies, about their proper functioning, and we treat them so shabbily, give them so little care, it is small wonder they often run down early or wear out too soon or suffer breakdowns of important parts. It often has been noted that most people take better care of their automobiles than they do of their bodies, seemingly cognizant of the complicated machinery in their cars but relatively unaware that they, themselves, reside in the most marvellous machine of all. Mental and spiritual identification with the Supreme is the greatest step toward spiritual health, but understanding the functions and care of the body certainly are essential in our modern civilization.
