Haval Jolion 2022 review: What's the cheap GWM Chinese small SUV like to live with in Australia?

Published
The Haval Jolion has taken Australia by storm, largely because it's one of the best-value small SUVs on the market. While competitors like the Honda HR-V and Kia Seltos seem to be increasing in price on a monthly basis, and suffering from major stock shortages, there have been plenty of new compact SUV customers looking at what's around that isn't from a mainstream brand.

GWM Haval has pitched in with the Jolion, with eye-wateringly low pricing, extensive equipment lists, long standard safety tech lists and interesting looks, not to mention levels of practicality that belie the size of this model.

But what's it like to live with? Andrew Chesterton spent three months in the mid-spec Lux model, which comes with the same 1.5-litre turbo four-cylinder engine and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and found there were lots of things that were enjoyable about the Jolion, but a few that really frustrated him, too.

Watch the video for an overview, or read his three monthly instalments at the link below.
