The World Cup unites soccer fans from all countries, but this year the host country of Qatar has generated controversy due to its human rights abuses and criminalization of homosexuality. However, games have gone on with little pushback. Peter Roby, former athletic director for Northeastern University, and Marcela Garcia, associate editor and columnist at the Boston Globe, joined Jim Braude to talk about the tradeoff between rooting for your team while also recognizing the issues surrounding FIFA and the World Cup. Both Roby and Garcia said players and fans are extremely invested in the World Cup, which is why widescale boycotting hasn't happened.

Screening, detecting and treating cancer is often a challenging process that can take a long time, but a new blood test developed in part by Point32Health could screen for the deadly disease and pick up on many different types of cancer. Susan Downard, director of clinical pharmacy at Point32Health and Peter Church, chief people officer at Point32Health spoke with Jim about the blood test in development, which both of them have taken. They said the new tool could help identify cancers for which there aren't routine screenings and that catching it early can lead to better outcomes.
