EXPLAINER: PMI's Agricultural Labor Practices program

As we transform our business, every step of our value chain is transitioning to serve our company purpose.

We’re a major, global buyer of tobacco, and as such, we recognize our role in respecting the human rights of workers, farmers, and families on the farms in our tobacco supply chain.

Much of the world’s tobacco leaf is grown on small farms in low- and medium-income countries. In these places, human rights issues such as child labor, subpar wages, and poor working conditions are identified risks that need careful attention.

It’s why in 2011 we established our Agricultural Labor Practices (ALP) program. Today, it seeks to ensure respect for the human and labor rights of all people living and working on the tobacco farms in our supply chain.
