Employee Records and Privacy Rights

Although the U.S. Constitution grants certain rights to citizens, over the years, laws and court decisions have limited their application in the workplace. The right to privacy is defined in legal terms as an individual’s freedom from unauthorized and unreasonable intrusion into personal affairs.

Data privacy is becoming increasingly important with the growth of mobile technologies and the use of applications (apps) that offer various functions. A large number of apps collect information about users. It is vital to ensure that company policies accurately and completely identify all data being collected so that users are aware of how their personal information is being handled.
