Coalition would 'concede Labor was right' by signing up to net zero by 2050

If the Coalition signs up to net zero by 2050, they have essentially "conceded that Labor and the Greens were right all along on climate and energy," according to columnist Tom Switzer.

"In 2019, Scott Morrison won the election that year primarily by opposing Labor's costly climate mitigation policy," Mr Switzer told Sky News host Chris Kenny.

"Now it appears that Morrison and the Liberals recognise the Greens and Labor were right."

It comes as the Coalition is discussing climate policy as Australia faces increased pressure to sign up to a net zero emissions by 2050 target ahead of the COP26 Climate Change Conference in Glasgow.
