3 problems with resume writing extended projects

Published
I'm Irene Marshall, a professional resume writer and interview coach with more than 20 years of experience helping people get jobs.

When a resume writing client comes back to me after an extended period of no contact, I have to begin what is known as an extended project.

Unfortunately, these projects often run into problems.

1. Lost Continuity of thought
After so much time away from each other, we have to spend valuable time rethinking all we have done in the past.
2. Change of focus
Often, a client's plan for their future career has shifted when they return to me, meaning we have to spend time reconfiguring our approach.
3. Rush job
I have a clear process for resume writing, and I don't want to rush this.

Extended projects are no fun for anyone, so before you enlist the help of a resume writer or coach, please make sure you have the time and commitment to follow through.
