Discrimination in the workplace is illegal under Tennessee and federal law. Employers who engage in discriminatory practices — or permit discriminatory practices by employees — can be held liable to employees who are the target of the discrimination. If you have been the victim of workplace discrimination, you may be entitled to compensation and other relief, such as the restoration of your job with seniority, restoration of job benefits, and the costs of a job search. A Nashville workplace discrimination attorney from the Employment and Consumer Law Group can help you determine whether you have been the victim of discrimination and have a viable legal claim to financial compensation and other relief.

Where a non-lawyer is competent to do work under the supervision of a lawyer, a lawyer may assign work to the non-lawyer. The non-lawyer must be directly supervised by the lawyer. A lawyer is required to review the non-lawyer's work at frequent intervals to ensure its proper and timely completion. The lawyer must not assign to a non- lawyer the ultimate responsibility for review of a title search report or of documents before signing or for review and signing of a letter of requisition, review and signing of a title opinion or review and signing of a reporting letter to the client. Rights and Responsibilities of Employers and Employees

For things to go well at work, the employer and the employee must each respect certain legal obligations. However, it might apply to you as an employer if you hire employees. NOTE: If an employee signs a written contract with the employer, it might place more responsibilities on the employer than the ones required by law. For example, an employment contract might say that the employer has to pay employees who have to use their own cars to do their jobs. Or the contract might also say that the employer has to pay back their employees for travel or entertainment expenses if they show their receipts. Employees and employers can try to settle things by talking to each other. In some cases, employees must try talking to their employer before taking any further steps.
