Regions United States. Do you have concerns about your privacy when you go online? Texasaggie1 , Sep 11, : Hey what's up y'all!?! Today I am going to talk about the OnePlus 7 Pro and some tips you can implement to optimize your own privacy on the device. I would love to hear the things you do to increase privacy while using your phone so share your ideas and let's keep this conversation interactive. Here are some things I do. Some might be pretty obvious so let's get started.

DuckDuckGo is a great alternative to Google and they do not store any information about you. They craft their ads based on the search you just made. I read about it in an interview with the CEO of DuckDuckGo where he basically said they are making money not knowing anything about you and just basing ads on your search.

Who would have thought that just basing ads off search alone would be very profitable and that a company doesn't need to know every little thing about you to make money off of you? I'm being a little facetious here but you get my point. I talked about it in the Favorite Browsers post I did with John jayanyway. One of my favorite features of Opera is the free built-in vpn you can use while browsing.

That feature works great with DDG. The downside of this VPN is it only anomizes the browsing traffic from your device, not the traffic from your other apps. My next tip covers that. You can mitigate some of this risk by using a VPN for all of the connections on your device.

The speeds are pretty good and I don't notice a huge battery drain on my device. Do you use a VPN on your phone? Which one is your favorite? DNS is the service that converts all of your traffic requests such as "yahoo. This feature lets you change that.

Cloudflare has a very helpful blogpost on how to implement it. Some corporate firewalls block the port needed for this so if you can't get it at work reach out to your IT department. Most likely they will LOVE how you are thinking about privacy and would be thrilled to open the port needed to make it happen for you. So play around with it and see if it works with yours.

It does work well with the Opera VPN though. They have brought so many great things to tech - Gmail, Google search, Chrome, Android. All of these products are some of the best products available in my opinion. But pretty much everything you do, they record. It's anonymous, so people don't see your data, but AI does which is kind of like a person always looking over your shoulder. Most of us are ok with that. It's good to be aware though and push back when we can.

It's kind of a battery hog too. There is a way you can disable Facebook when you aren't using it, and just about any other app you have installed! You can do this using the Island App. The island app is a neat little program that takes advantage of the Android feature called "Android for Work.

You even get a work profile app store. You can install any app you want in this separate profile. Then when you are not using the apps in your work profile you can turn the entire profile off temporarily. Every app in work mode is then frozen until you turn it back on. The OnePlus launcher even has built-in support for a work profile.

Check this out: That's my launcher btw. Once you enable the Work Profile, you can add a tile in the notification shade to toggle all of your work apps: Give it a try and let me know what you think! Thanks for sticking with this post all of the way to the end. Those are the ideas I have. Leave your ideas to optimize privacy in the comments below! Randy NeverSettle. Screen Shot at 5. I don't know if my comments here interest anyone at all but when it comes to ensuring privacy then it's not enough to exchange a few apps. You can either have privacy or you can't. One, we change our surf behavior a little, or we change a few apps, or we change a few parameters in the network interface, just don't prevent data from being extracted, stored and processed. Because if you close one place, there are enough other places where data is extracted. Data protection, or rather data economy, always means that it is hard work, and often also that you have to change what you are used to.

So if you want to talk about privacy and data economy, if that really should be the case here, then the following points are a small part of what you should do. Basically, everything depends on the fact that I'm an advocate of central data structures and data silos that I do not control myself. The Internet is basically decentralized, some offer a Wiki and others an email server and others offer news. Also messenger, social media and pictures and much more is offered individually.

But the individual providers are disappearing because the big players unite everything under one roof. No way, sometimes apart from the danger of propaganda, every provider undermines here the danger that he publishes things which are not right and he can move the opinion in different directions. Everyone collects an infinite amount of data about their users, and often the user doesn't even notice that data is being collected.

Below I will write a small article about what you can do, when and where, to stop it a little and to save data. My remarks only scratch the surface, but it offers enough tools to move data sparingly through the net. But I'm warning you, a lot can't be done with Oxygen OS, because OnePlus has changed so much on the android system that it just doesn't work, so the most refers to Lineage OS. Furthermore I warn you, it is not a short text, so if you are really interested, you should take some time.

Otherwise I wish you a lot of fun, and I say it again, this text doesn't claim to be complete and correct, so if you find errors or have more information, please correct it.

Operating system If you really want to talk about privacy, then you should pay attention to the following things to really leave as few traces as possible, and that starts with the selected operating system, preferably Lineage would be to mention here, on the one hand because there are very good supports for OnePlus devices, but also because OnePlus has actually once started with the predecessor CyanogenMod on the OnePlus One.

But also because rooting the device and or install another ROM does not affect the warranty. But also Oxygen OS can be made more privacy friendly under certain circumstances. You also have do delete facebook, twitter, and so on. How to do it I show here, you don't need root to unsinstall system apps : 1. YaImCo Developer Sep 19, There is just another "excitement", I would like to say again, that above are only the few possibilities of the user that can be done.

What is it about? Maybe we should start in , when a small group realized that a SIM card is a small computer that can ride on its own without informing the device behind it what it is doing.

It is therefore a separate operating system independent of the rest of the smartphone. However, this also means that programs can be installed and executed on the SIM card. In the past, before smartphones existed, programs ran on the SIM card. Some people remember when you used to store your contacts on your SIM card. This is such a program that lives on a SIM card, for example. It's about a small computer that you carry around with you that you don't control, and it's not the smartphone or the smartphones operating system, but just your SIM card.

Now, the latest news is again going through all channels and social media networks that there is a questionable hack, which is not recognized by the user. But he can interact with the smartphone and the OS behind it without the user noticing.

It means that you can add an app to a SIM card via SMS, which can then read out the address book for further commands, e. It would also be conceivable, however, that it would simply dig for crypto currencies.

But it is also obvious that it accesses the NFC interface. This is mostly a 64k Javacard WIB 1. But we have known all this since the middle of the 90s.

But then there was the fact that in at the Toorcamp conference, some people talked about SIM cards, and in at the defcon 21 Eric Butler and Karl Koscher showed up and talked about exactly what has been used for quite some time now.

This framwork is used by telecommunication providers to push your configuration, to provide subscription services or weather services and so on. These services do not run as apps in the smartphone but as programs in the SIM card. Who says that you can only install a program that should use the service of the telecommunication provider, why not something else? Yes, that's exactly what happens, and since the SIM card practically has system rights, and for that you can actually cancel all system rights that you have used.

Ok, now, as I said, just a small excursion that can not be controlled by the user, and why I said it only scratched my trip on the surface, but at least it can restrict the obvious things.

NPR's Steve Inskeep talks to an Israeli woman and a Palestinian man, who are members of the group Parents Circle, which brings together Israelis and Palestinians who have lost children to violence. Two people have been talking to us from what, as we've heard, is starting to look a lot like a war zone. One is Israeli; the other is Palestinian. He lives in the Israeli-occupied West Bank. Neither one of them accepts the views of the people driving this conflict. Both of them want a negotiated solution. They are members of the Parents Circle.

Update, Sept. Read more about the new phone from OnePlus. Original story follows. But there's one thing about the phone that's been bugging me. OnePlus claims that the phone is water resistant to some degree, despite the fact that it doesn't have an official IP rating, but we are never told just how water resistant the phone really is. To find out if the device can indeed survive a dunk, I set out to test the OnePlus 7 Pro's water resistance to the point where it eventually dies. But unlike other premium phones, it hasn't gone through the rigorous IP testing for water durability. To have everyone else pay extra "for the sake of an IP rating" in order to accommodate the one user who goes off and swims with their phone is "unreasonable," according to Lau.

The Xiaomi phone includes software modules specifically designed to leak data to Chinese authorities and to censor media related to topics the Chinese government considers sensitive. The Huawei phone replaces the standard Google Play application store with third-party substitutes the NCSC found to harbor sketchy, potentially malicious repackaging of common applications. The OnePlus 8T 5G—arguably, the best-known and most widely marketed phone of the three—was the only one to escape the NCSC's scrutiny without any red flags raised. The Google Analytics module in Mi Browser can read from the device's browsing and search history and can then send that data to Xiaomi servers for unspecified analysis and use. The Google Analytics module is activated automatically by default during the phone's first activation or after any factory reset.
