Be challenged and rewarded on our Level 3 Health and Social Care Diploma as you gain an excellent introduction and preparation for your future career. Study a range of topics such as anatomy and physiology, safeguarding and promoting health and well-being.

If you choose the Extended Diploma you will also study specialist areas such as mental health and learning disabilities. Our wonderful staff and students have built an excellent reputation amongst local service providers; our location on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus means you are perfectly placed to make use of the established links we have with Addenbrookes Hospital.

You will be taught by subject-specialists who have the relevant knowledge and vocational experience to support your progression into a range of different careers. This 2 year course leads to a vocational qualification which will prepare you for further study or employment and is an excellent grounding for a wide range of careers in health, social care and early years. Our teachers have wide vocational experience. Work experience is an integral part of the course along with extensive coursework and several exams.

The units are varied and cover a range of specialisms such as Anatomy and Physiology, Equality and Diversity, and Building Positive Relationships, considering a range of health, social care and early years settings. There are coursework assignments and activities which need to be completed in a care setting. These will form part of your final assessment. You will have the opportunity to take part in a full and varied extra-curricular programme, which previously has included opportunities such as work placement at the Royal Papworth Hospital and voluntary work in across a range of health, social and child care settings.

This will enable you to make clear links between theory and practice, as well as provide you with rich experience that will support a university or employment application.

Health and social care is an ever-developing sector. We support this by linking with current practitioners to bring the most up-to-date knowledge and skills to the classroom.

Your learning will be hugely diverse, including engaging classroom delivery, independent and group projects and a range of experience in care settings with both staff and service users.

You will take compulsory work placements in at least two different settings; work experience forms a vital part of the course, providing you with experience in the reality of care work and the opportunity to develop core care skills. Please note; you may be required to pay course costs towards your study on this course. You can use this qualification to go into higher education or other professional courses, leading to careers in Health, Social or Public Services such as Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Early Years teaching and Social Work.

Social Care

This work-based Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care is ideal for people who are currently working or are interested in working with people in a health and social care context. The degree has been specially designed to enable students to reflect on their work place experiences and develop an understanding of the theory underpinning their practice. The degree is designed and delivered to ensure that all students have the opportunity to develop their academic skills for higher level study which is especially valuable for students returning to education after a break. It will also serve as a fantastic introduction to the academic expectations of Higher Education for those who have more recently studied. Students studying on this degree will be expected to be working or volunteering in a course relevant environment for a minimum of hours in year 1 and hours in year 2. Assistance will be given students if they require help with finding work placements. The full time Foundation Degree, the first two years of a BA Hons or BSc Hons is delivered over 2 years, every Wednesday from 1pm to 8pm, term-time only for 33 weeks each year.

Our Health and Social Care BSc Hons degree is designed to help you develop the confidence, knowledge and skills required for a professional career in the health and social care sector. Our course is also fully validated by the Chartered Institute of Housing CIH , so if you choose to specialise in housing you'll receive free student membership of the CIH.
