Concentration of dissolved decay contents in oil, flash point of insulation oil, and linear thermal expansion coefficients of solid insulation with aging have been studied using ultraviolet visible spectroscopy, flash point and dilatometry analysis respectively. Change in functional groups of the insulation oils with aging have been understood by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy analysis. Additionally, diffusion of oil-moisture mixture into paper with aging and corresponding effect on dielectric strength of paper has been also examined.

Pongamia Pinnata as Alternate Liquid Dielectrics in Distribution

In general, transformer is one of the most important equipment in the power system, the reliability of a transformer is commonly determined by its insulation condition. The insulation liquid that has been used for decades is petroleum based mineral oil which has a very good cooling performance. However, it is insidious to the environment. Hence, vegetable oils such as coconut oil and palm oil are used as the alternative to replace the mineral oil.

In this paper, it presents the comparative studies from previous experiments on dielectric strength, moisture content, viscosity, pour point and flash point of both vegetable oils. This fluid is environmentally-friendly and has a high flash point and a high fire point. The base oil is hydrogenated to produce maximum possible stability of the oil, or alternatively, is a higher oleic acid oil. The vegetable oils of the preferred embodiments are soybean or corn oils. The oil can be winterized to remove crystallized fats and improve the pour point of the base oil, without the necessity of heating the oil.

A Review on Oil-Based Nanofluid as Next-Generation Insulation for Transformer Application

Abstract: To study the viscosity-temperature characteristics of PAO oil and ester oil and find its different. The viscosities of PAO oil and ester oil at the temperatures from to are measured by SYP kinematical viscosity instrument. The curves of viscosity versus temperature are presented based on the least square method. The expression better forecast the viscosities value and can be used in practice. Experiment results show that the viscosity of the two lubricating oils decreases when temperature increasing.

Ester oils are used as base oils in many applications because of their readily biodegradability and specific characteristics. When applying aster oils, you should carefully consider the specifications and benefits of the different ester oil types. In addition to hydrocarbons, carboxylic acid esters are used as base liquids. They can be divided into two groups: synthetic and natural vegetable oils, animal fats. Furthermore, they have excellent dielectric characteristics and offer good low-temperature and high-temperature performance in engine oils. Natural esters are readily biodegradable, but their resistance to aging is low. The oxidation stability of synthetic ester lubricants, especially the saturated products of high purity, is much better.

IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON DIELECTRICS AND ELECTRICAL INSULATION

The dielectric performance of mineral oil and natural esters is still a challenge that has been studied for many years to attain the best liquid insulation for power transformer. With the continued need for power transformers, the use and reuse of mineral oil in transformers has reached several thousand tonnes across the world. Therefore, industries are compelled to resolve the problem of pollution and non-biodegradability of petroleum-based mineral oil. Typically, there is no right solution; to that end researchers have recently shifted their focus towards edible oil markets to find the alternative insulating fluid.

Abstract Distribution Transformers are one of the imperative equipment in power system. The insulation design has an important role because it continuously energizes in a day. Due to electro mechanical stresses the operating temperature of distribution transformer will be increased which maintains with in limit using liquid dielectrics. Traditional mineral oil is used as liquid dielectrics in Distribution Transformer. Due to lack of fossil fuels and lesser biodegradability characteristics of mineral oil, the alternating liquid dielectrics are important.
