Nottinghamshire Healthcare has been recognised for its work in supporting employees who are military reservists. The Trust first received the Gold Award in The Ministry of Defence Employers Recognition Scheme encourages employers to support defence and inspire others to do the same. It encompasses bronze, silver and gold awards for organisations that pledge, demonstrate or advocate support to defence and the armed forces community, and align their values with the Armed Forces Covenant.
The Trust re-signed the Armed Forces Covenant in June , pledging to support the armed forces community and recognise the value that serving personnel, reservists, veterans and military families contribute to the Country. Previously, the Trust has supported a number of reservist employees to be deployed across the armed forces and has supported their transition back into the Trust upon their return.
Step into Health offers an access route into employment and other career development opportunities within the NHS to members of the armed forces community. Our policies also reflect the flexibilities for staff that are called into full time service to support them to adjust to deployment before, during and after.

NHS conditions of employment
These will go significantly further than the current NHS contract, and statutory rights to requesting flexible working. The new agreement further requires NHS employers to work with trade unions and agree a standard approach for staff to lodge appeals following unsuccessful requests. NHS trusts will also be expected to subject their flexible working policies to an equality impact assessment, and collect and publish data relating to the flexible working requests made by staff. A range of restrictions on NHS flexible working requests are to be scrapped, following an agreement between health service employers and unions aimed at boosting work-life balance and staff retention. Under the deal, nurses working in the health service will be able to make an unlimited number of applications for flexible working per year, instead of the current one. They will also be able to submit applications without having to justify requests or provide specific reasons. The new rights will be effective from 13 September , with employers and unions now working to revise and update existing local policies and work on the changes needed. The provisions will apply in England, Scotland and Wales, with similar measures expected to follow in Northern Ireland.
