Gain a broad foundation in civil engineering and environmental sciences, and learn how to design systems that anticipate and manage the way humans interact with the environment. During the program, you'll build your expertise in areas including environmental management, planning and restoration, managed ecosystems and marine science. At the end of your studies you will have the scientific skills needed to make judgements on the conservation and use of Australia's natural ecosystems and resources. Students who are exempted from one or two courses will need to substitute one or two engineering relevant courses in order to fulfil the requirements of the degree. Engineering students are eligible for free membership to Engineers Australia.

QUT Receives ARC Funding for a New Lunar Testbed
The key priority for Environmental engineers is a concern for the environment and how it interacts with people and projects. Their work involves developing engineering solutions to environmental problems that impact our land, water and air quality, with an aim for sustainable development. Environmental engineering embraces broad environmental concerns, including water quality and supply, groundwater protection and remediation, wastewater treatment, indoor and outdoor air pollution, solid and hazardous waste disposal, the supply of safe drinking water, cleaning contaminated sites, preserving sensitive wetlands, and prevention of pollution through product and process design. Environmental engineers balance competing technical, social and legal issues concerning the use of environmental resources. Students study a common first year allowing them to learn more about engineering and its different fields before deciding which discipline to study. The common first year provides students with sound fundamentals in mathematics, statistics, physics, chemistry, computing, engineering science and communication, mechanics, materials and fluids. Students then focus on a chosen major study from the second year.

Guades, E. Deep foundation has historically involved the use of traditional materials such as concrete, steel and timber. However, these materials suffered from strength degradation and its repair cost is significant especially if installed in harsh marine environment. A relatively new trend in piling industry is to use composites as substitute material. Composites present a novel solution without most of the traditional materials' shortcomings. The basic advantages of composites among other construction materials include lightweight, high strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance, chemical and environmental resistance, and low maintenance cost.
