Examples of duties: Wiring or maintaining and repairing of substations, preparing switchboard panels, installing transformers, connecting and disconnecting ammeters, voltmeters, relays, switches, lights or other equipment and apparatus.

Performs apprentice-level work under the direction of journey-level meter technicians in the testing, repairing, calibrating and installing of meters, electrical and electronic support equipment.

Examples of duties: Assist in testing, calibrating and repairing of electrical and electronic test equipment; testing, calibrating, repairing and installing auxiliary devices to metering such as totalizer, pulse initiators, transformers, loss compensators, survey recorders, multifunction meters and other auxiliary equipment. Local Union was chartered on August 30, with a total of 13 members. Today our membership consists of over 3, and our Brothers and Sisters work for 77 different companies under 42 different contracts throughout the State of Minnesota. Electrical Technician (IBEW) - Storrie

Apprenticeship is an opportunity for inexperienced individuals to learn a career skill through actual "hands-on" training--not just reading a book. ALBAT apprentices are actual full-time employees of electrical contractors and earn excellent pay and benefits while they are being taught these skills by master craftsmen on the job. In addition to the on-the-job training, ALBAT apprentices receive related classroom instruction, which covers the techniques of the trade, as well as the theory behind the techniques. Apprentices learn "how" on the job and "why" in the classroom. Introductory training lasts for 3 weeks either 2 straight weeks or 3 weeks if you go home on the weekends. There is no charge for the school as long as you complete the courses.

There have been several questions asked pertaining to the new classification of Substation Technician in Outside Line. This classification was intended to fill the gap within the OSL agreement that is left when a journeyman, utility substation electrician or out of class lineman who has performed nothing but substation work has found themselves unemployed and using the OSL out of work books. This new classification will require an individual to know all aspects of the substation and work inside the fence. This includes control wiring as well as all the other disciplines that go into working in a substation.


Position Summary. This job is subject to collective bargaining. Responsible for performing work involving an extremely high degree of complexity, including commissioning substation schemes, and maintaining components of protective relay systems microprocessor and electro-mechanical ; substation and electric utility protection systems; station automation and supervisory control and data acquisition SCADA systems. The individual will work near energized equipment and may be exposed to loud noises and vibrations.
