Movie where guys job is to break out of prisons

If personality were enough to carry a movie, "Escape Plan" would never touch the ground. In this film, action movie old dogs Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger are relentlessly likeable, even when serving up plot and dialogue that would have been trampled on the writer's room floor of "Knight Rider" circa Swedish genre director Mikael Hafstrom's delight at having life-sized Rambo and Terminator action figures to play with is palpable in this prison break flick. He covers their hushed conversations inside The Tomb, a seemingly inescapable prison fortress, in giant, lingering close-ups. We are not to miss a single flicker of chemistry that passes between these two longstanding human franchises.

Down by Law, one of his best, sees the prison break movie get the Jarmusch treatment, which ultimately means it finally has little in common with its antecedents and genre companions beyond surface similarities. Jarmusch certainly does. Just like in the American movies!

It seems the perfect cue to go on the lam and seek out 10 other great movie prison breaks …. Brute Force Munsey knows.

Escape is the only solution for the men staring at the prison gates as they open to carry out a coffin, of course ; brute force the only means of attaining it. It never was and it never will be. Le Trou The breakout attempt in Le Trou — a tunnel dug from cell to prison sewer system — proves almost unbearably tense, Becker paring away the inessential in a manner that pays distinct homage to Robert Bresson. The evasion of patrolling guards is the stuff the edge of a seat was made for, and here the suspense is built in real time with chisel and hammer.

Escape from Alcatraz The question of whether or not three inmates made it successfully to the mainland after an ingenious breakout from Alcatraz prison in June still holds a firm grip on public imagination.

Escape from New York poster. Ah, Providing an iconic role for the effortlessly charismatic Kurt Russell , the bravura cyberpunk spectacle of Escape from New York proves one thing once again: for all the young pretenders to his throne — a number seeming to grow by the month these days — no one attacks genre with the wit and panache of its maestro, John Carpenter.

Director Andrei Konchalovsky. Runaway Train The tag-team of Jon Voight and Eric Roberts in the terrific Runaway Train must be one of the barmiest to have seen both parties nominated for an Oscar.

Adapted from a screenplay by Akira Kurosawa , the film sees the duo grease up for an escape bid from the Alaskan prison Voight has seen himself welded into for three years. They hitch a ride on a train outta Dodge with faulty brakes and a driver with a heart condition, and what begins as pulpy genre exercise soon morphs into existential nightmare, with the pair engaged in a fight for survival as the train hurtles out of control.

Natural Born Killers Still, great sequence or not, any film which gets a pompadoured Tommy Lee Jones to toot as looney a tune as he does here — before he finds his head on a spike, that is — simply demands inclusion.

The Shawshank Redemption With the contemporaneous Forrest Gump currently undergoing a 20th anniversary critical reassessment, expect The Shawshank Redemption to get a similar commemoration when its birthday comes round in the next few weeks.

The Rock As dumb as they come, but an undeniable hoot. Directors Peter Lord and Nick Park. Chicken Run The debut feature from those national treasures at Aardman Animation, Chicken Run certainly proves the most infectiously cheerful of the prison break flicks on this list, even given its propensity for dashes of gallows humour. That said, there are poultry puns aplenty and the set-pieces soar, not least in the smashing staging of its finale.

The Old Man & the Gun (2018)

Prison movies have been around for decades offering a variety of glimpses into how to break free and stick it to the Man. We also went light on options involving the military as those types of films could really offer their own list though there is a cheat here and there. Still, however deserving, you won't see flicks like Rescue Dawn and The Last Castle in our final picks. Last but not least regarding the things we tried shying away from, our preference for actual prison-type scenarios kept us away from the whimsical apologies to the Leia rescue in Star Wars, Magneto in X2, Joker in The Dark Knight and, of course, the prison break in Guardians of the Galaxy. Still, you may find an option or two that strays from that. Hypocrisy is the spice of life.

The Strange Case of the Non-Criminal Jail Break

movie where guys job is to break out of prisons

Formerly incarcerated people need stable jobs for the same reasons as everyone else: to support themselves and their loved ones, pursue life goals, and strengthen their communities. But how many formerly incarcerated people are able to find work? Using a nationally representative dataset, we provide the first ever estimate of unemployment among the 5 million formerly incarcerated people living in the United States. Our estimate of the unemployment rate establishes that formerly incarcerated people want to work, but face structural barriers to securing employment, particularly within the period immediately following release. This perpetual labor market punishment creates a counterproductive system of release and poverty, hurting everyone involved: employers, the taxpayers, and certainly formerly incarcerated people looking to break the cycle.

I'm innocent — innocent, I tells ya!

2 years ago, a pair of killers made a prison break straight out of 'Shawshank Redemption'

The year-old mystery of an infamous prison break from Alcatraz may have finally been solved using artificial-intelligence and facial-recognition technology. Rothco, the Irish creative agency owned by Accenture Interactive, teamed up with AI specialists at Identv to analyse a picture of two escapees and have, for the first time, confirmed their identities. The prison, which shut down in , was famed for being supposedly impossible to escape from. Morris and the Anglin brothers were assumed to have drowned after fleeing the island on a raft made of 50 inflated raincoats, but new facial-recognition analysis appears to prove that they were, in fact, successful in their escape. In , a grainy photo left emerged that was taken by a family friend of the Anglins, who were allegedly living in Brazil in Five years later, facial-recognition analysis confirms that the men in the picture are the same as those who escaped from prison.

Morgan Freeman hosts History Channel prison break series

The brainchild of writer-director Josef Fares—whose first game, Brothers: A Tale Of Two Sons , was a far more successful meditation on the nature of cooperation and support— A Way Out centers on two convicts looking to head out on the lam: career criminal Leo and uptight former banker Vincent. More often, the game simply feels like a clunkier, less-flashy take on Uncharted , propelling the players through a direct-to-DVD Nicolas Cage flick instead of a high-budget Spielberg action-adventure. Rather than investigating the prison, building up connections, and putting together a plan, players are simply tossed into a series of linear vignettes, all taken from a pre-assembled blueprint. Succeed—by stealing a needed tool or talking your way past a guard, for example—and the plot progresses. The violent beauty of a prison break movie is in watching desperate people do dangerous things with absolutely no margin for error. Sure, the difference is hard to make out, but at least you'll be entitled to bragging rights.

To celebrate more than a quarter-century of "Shawshank," here are the 25 best prison movies of all time. Locked up in a maximum-security jail for leaflets against apartheid, they embarked on one of the most audacious escapes in history.

Timeline is an interesting film, because it is an example of several talented forces coming together to make a thunderously mediocre turdsplash of an adventure tale. Directed by Hollywood mainstay Richard Donner and based on a novel by modern sci-fi icon Michael Crichton , this movie about a team of graduate students time-traveling back to medieval Europe to rescue their stranded professor is as boring as it is disappointing. Timeline is a difficult movie to recommend, because while its time-travel twists are kind of neat, you can also see them lurching towards you from a mile away. I had to pause Gods of Egypt after the first hour, during the scene in which Geoffrey Rush was standing on the bridge of his space barge shooting lasers at a giant snake, because my living room was spinning and I was about to collapse from sheer delirium. The fantasy action-adventure film from Dark City director Alex Proyas stars Nicholaj Coster-Waldau as the Egyptian god Horus, who must defeat his villainous uncle Set Gerard Butler and reclaim the throne of the world.

A major pre-state prison break operation by a Zionist militia that freed inmates from a British jail has been exposed as an inside job, according to a report Sunday that cited the family members of the Jewish architect and engineer who built the prison. According to The Guardian , the Zionist architect, Peres Etkes, handed the entire building plans of the prison in Acre to the Irgun paramilitary group, enabling the legendary storming, which is seen as a major event that weakened the British Mandate and led to the creation of Israel. The Irgun operation at the Acre prison, built on the ruins of a 12th century crusader fortress, was well-planned.
