While in school, I learned and studied the role that the predator and prey relationship has on the environment around it. The delicate balance system that these two roles play has always fascinated me. I was born and raised in Saginaw, Michigan. My father worked laborer jobs, which often called for physically demanding work. While my mother worked small sales jobs at various shops. Coming from a family where exploring the idea of higher education was never talked about nor given a second thought.

Princeton senior Ben Alessio had planned to spend his summer internship with the Princeton Environmental Institute PEI in the laboratory of Professor Howard Stone conducting experiments related to diffusiophoresis , an important process by which particles are transported through water. Alessio, a physics major, worked from home integrating physical effects into a code that solves the system of partial differential equations that describe diffusiophoresis under various conditions. One physical effect — having many ions in the solute — had never been implemented before. I would say it was a fortunate result of having to go to computer work. Alessio was one of more than Princeton undergraduate students enrolled in the PEI Environmental Internship program this year who — despite transitioning to virtual internships due to the coronavirus — worked closely with noted faculty and other experts on research related to critical environmental topics. PEI supported students from across the University in positions with Princeton faculty, researchers from other scientific enterprises, government agencies, and not-for-profit organizations and community groups. Their projects focused on global environmental challenges in the areas of policy and resilience, biodiversity and conservation, alternative energy, climate change, water, and human health. PEI interns for the summer of presented their research Sept. Eusebi, a computer science major, worked on developing a statistical model that can explain and predict seasonal hurricane frequencies in a variety of different climate scenarios using sea-surface temperatures.

Major duties are related to monitoring and management of wildlife and wildlife habitat. We're still solidifying plans regarding on-site and remote aspects of the summer internship program. Last summer, the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center ran a combination of remote, on-site and hybrid internships. We were unable to provide on-site housing for students in summer , in accordance with COVID safety precautions, so interns who worked on site commuted to SERC multiple days a week. Growing up she wanted to pursue a career where she could work outdoors which is how she came to find Environmental Sustainability. Her interest in Metric stemmed from the company being a minority-owned business and having a diverse workforce. During her time at IU, her studies were concentrated in Environmental Justice and Ethics and focused on Environmental Policy regarding endangered species. She was happy to learn that Metric often works with the Indiana Bat which is a state and federally endangered species.
