Georgia-Pacific has announced that it is closing its Lehigh Valley Dixie Cup manufacturing facility in Forks Township by the end of the year. In January of last year the company had announced it would be moving some of its cup manufacturing operations from its cup plant in Darlington, South Carolina with operations being split between the Lehigh Valley operations in Forks and the Lexington plant. Dixie Cups have been manufactured in the Easton area since the early s. The original plant with the iconic Dixie Cup on its roof closed in with operations continuing in Forks Township.
Georgia-Pacific is closing its Dixie Cup plant in Forks Township at a cost of Lehigh Valley jobs in the manufacturing facility, the Atlanta-based company announced Friday morning. The plant at Kuebler Road will shut by the end of the year, although jobs could be shed any time after late March, the company said. The Forks Township site will continue to make the iconic cups as equipment is moved south, the corporation said.
