You'll be involved in shaping Kirklees by balancing the needs of people, business, jobs, local facilities, open spaces and environment. You will be working for a Council that is committed to ensuring new development is sustainable and addresses climate change emergency. Kirklees Council is a large metropolitan authority. It includes the thriving University town of Huddersfield and stunning Pennine countryside. Diverse towns and villages range from Dewsbury at the edge of Leeds to Holmfirth at the edge of the Peak District.
The Planning Service is responsible for preparing planning policy, processing planning applications and investigating possible breaches of planning. You will experience working in different Service areas, to ensure you gain a thorough understanding of the differing aspects of planning and how they relate to one another. This role will enable someone to join our Service and work towards a Level 7 Chartered Town Planner degree apprenticeship.
You will combine studying at Sheffield Hallam University SHU with working on the job to gain knowledge, skills and experience. You will need:. The qualification will require that you meet the entry standard for Sheffield Hallam University. This degree will be delivered by day release and you will be expected to attend the required course lectures and events. You will also spend time on the job collecting a portfolio of evidence and you'll be working on a number of projects.

Job description
This degree apprenticeship is designed for those wishing to understand and practice spatial planning in the UK as chartered town planners. The MSc Spatial Planning provides:. The degree looks at how people, places and the environment interact and change, and the ways this might be influenced. The focus is on UK practices. The degree includes both core modules, providing an introduction to key knowledge, and specialist modules, allowing you to tailor your studies to your interests. After completion of the degree, apprentices then continue with workplace learning and then an End Point Assessment administered by the RTPI, in order to become a fully qualified professional planner at the end of the third year.
Chartered Town Planner degree apprenticeship
According to the RTPI, the Level 7 Chartered Town Planner degree apprenticeship is a new route into the profession that combines academic education with practical experience to equip future employees with vital skills as well as a degree. Currently, the vast majority of planners enter the profession after graduating from RTPI-accredited undergraduate or postgraduate planning degrees. Existing graduates or employees with no planning qualifications may be eligible. The RTPI said that over 80 employers are interested in employing apprentices and at least six universities are working to offer the apprenticeship from this September. Anne Milton, apprenticeships and skills minister, said: "I am thrilled that the first degree level apprenticeship for town planners is getting off the ground. This is a fantastic opportunity to encourage more people to pursue an exciting career and make a real difference in their local communities. Victoria Hills, RTPI chief executive, said: "I am delighted that we can finally boost the training of planners that the country so desperately needs, and make this exciting profession accessible to many more people who might not have considered it before.
Apprenticeships at Norfolk County Council
The Department is responsible for preparing strategic plans, processing planning applications and investigating possible breaches of planning. The course at level 7 is run by the University of Brighton who is responsible for supporting you with your learning and carrying out assessments. The course has core modules to complete and a number of optional units. Your work experience will be linked to the modules and units in your course.
