They are extremely thoughtful when it comes to their employees and with their buddies people who have disabilities and their families. I worked at BBI as a temp for a year and a half and I really enjoyed going to work. They host multiple events during the year, which most of the company attends, great environment to meet a lot of people, and an overall great place to work.
Awful Upper Management. Issues with upper management. They cared more about proper use of pronouns than their mission. They get together in Miami at the annual conference and drink to excess. I saw employees passed out in hotel hallways. Too many young immature executives.
Company politics was out of control and the bottom line had more to do with popularity than hard work and bottom line. Management is horrible. As a company they do great things but corporate office is horrible they have no real structure in terms of how they want to help you grow. They are understaffed and expect you to be a genius at your job. You are not allowed to question nothing and well people there are all not all that helpful. Fun workplace to learn quickly. We all worked with special need students, helped them with their daily needs, assisted with feeding and daily medications and assisted in dressing and transporting the special need students.
Best Buddies. I love Best Buddies. I was able to build leadership skills that will be beneficial to me the rest of my life. It is a unique diverse group, and that allow to learn different types of people.
Short and not so sweet. I took this position because of the mission. My heart was totally into making the lives of the Buddies better I only wish management was of the same mindset. Senior leaders and direct reports run down other staff that was not part of their high school girls club. Promotions here are given on the basis of friendship and that goes all the way up to the top in Miami.
As a program manager I was given more than I could possibly handle. I was over schools that would never see. I bought this to my state directors attention and she agreed with me but was powerless to change it.
She was not allowed to hold people accountable for their actions. The culture of the organization is hugs not accountability. My director was well liked and respected by the donors and staff. She worked night and day to keep the state running but ultimately left due to a total lack of support from Miami staff. Once she left it became a kindergarten class because no leadership and no accountability. Fundraising is based on the misconception that money stays locally but that is so not the case.
Best Buddies have one employee that continues to hold a full time job with her previous nonprofit and rarely actually works for BB but senior management looks the other way.
Another employee was too focused on a dying modeling career to focus on her job. My so called resource staff member was totally unprofessional. Needs to learn how to speak to people. My time was very short with the organization. In speaking with my peers I knew it was time to leave because without a strong leader things were only going to get worse. The best part of this organization is the Buddies. They all are wonderful and the students that work with them are saints. To save this place there needs to be a total shake up starting at the top.
Accountability, respect and work ethics would be a great place to start. Good company with great intentions. I worked there for a brief period but truly enjoyed the atmosphere and the people I worked with. Everyone was pleasant and helped one another. Intern at Best Buddies. At my time at Best Buddies, I helped contact local businesses in Long Beach to inquire about sponsorship for the annual Friendship Walk. In addition, I helped input new buddies into their online system, and enter donations from the walk into the online system.
Horrible management terrible pay. My manager was the worst. The pay is terrible. No raises while the ceo makes an unbelievable salary and his office takes up half the of the entire office space. Even for social services the pay is horrible. The only bonus is working with the kids. Autonomous management. Superb HQ support. Amazing goals to achieve or exceed. What is that? Upper management staff is totally incompetent. Most were promoted because of their friendships.
Some have no experience in the field they are promoted to oversee. Corporate meetings are a joke because the sorority acts like they are back in college. They are never held accountable and staff never sees them outside of corporate meetings.
Work life balance is absolute zero. Vacation is given as part of the benefit package but actually being allowed to take it is completely out of the question. Support staff salaries are so low that its a constant revolving door. Best Buddies is used to gain a little experience after college then move on to a better job.
When you have openings the rest of the staff is just given more and more work which causes them to leave because of being overworked. Local directors are always running around like mad trying to keep all the pieces in order with ZERO help from national staff. The mission and the people it supports are the absolute best part of Best Buddies. The donors love and support this organization but have no clue of the dysfunctionality behind the curtain. I know my review is harsh but true.
I was not terminated. I resigned free from duress and now work for another organization with a similar mission. Good community, bad upper management. People are promoted without proper training and upper management is unwilling to adapt to changing times. They give a lot of time off which is nice, as well as flexibility. While you learn a lot, you are not compensated fairly. The organization is great but the work that the finance department entails were very long hours and a lot of work for not enough people especially for the amount paid.
Amazing Non-Profit. I really enjoyed my work with Best Buddies. I learned that the non-profit sector is no different--you just get paid less! It is your choice.

The instructor is very competent, sometimes strict but always fair. I liked the way the material was presented; it was hands-on, with engaging homework tasks that really motivated me to take more photos. I could study any time I liked , seven days a week, and got prompt reviews and a friendly attitude from a very responsible tutor! I liked the course format, especially the way you can work directly with the teacher. All instructor comments are precise and concise. Thank you! Want to say thank you sooo much to the teachers!
